Johnstown, PA – The Laurel Auto Group AAABA baseball team is excited to announce its roster additions for the upcoming 2014 season. Last year marked a step in the right direction for the young franchise, as they improved to a 21-16 record and advanced to the playoffs. This year’s roster additions bring added firepower to the lineup and on the mound.
New faces in the dugout:
Logan Urtz – RHP/IF – Seton Hill – RS sophomore: Held a 4-0 record in 34.1 IP and a 3.67 ERA in his 2013 season with the Griffins…has pitched 8.2 innings so far in the young college season with a 5.20 ERA…looks to be a key contributor on the mound for LAG.
Collin Laguzza – C/RHP – St. Vincent – sophomore: Played at St. John Fisher College in NY in 2013…transferred to St. Vincent for his sophomore season…currently hitting .375 with 2 doubles and 8 RBI. Will serve as one of LAG’s back-stops and throw important innings on the mound.
Jon White – OF – St. Vincent – sophomore: Played at Penn State-Greater Allegheny in 2013…transferred to St. Vincent for his sophomore season…currently hitting .317 with 2 doubles and 9 RBI for the Bearcats…will play one of the OF spots and add speed to the LAG lineup.
Nick Vento – OF – Washington & Jefferson College – freshman: Named to the WPIAL AAAA Section 3 All-Star team as a senior at Franklin Regional high school in 2013…currently leading W&J with a .406 batting average with 4 doubles…will play in the OF and adds pop to the LAG lineup.
Nathan Mori – SS – Waynesburg – freshman: Named to the WPIAL AAAA Section 2 All-Star team as a senior at Hempfield high school in 2013…also tabbed as a 1st team All-Section member…currently hitting .286 for the Yellow Jackets…will add a solid glove and scrappy bat to the LAG roster.
Sean Thompson – RHP/1B – Indiana Area HS – senior: The 6’4’’ right-hander held a 4-1 record on the mound and hit .397 for the Indians in 2013…named the 2014 WPIAL AAA Section 2 pre-season Co-Player of the Year…committed to Virginia Commonwealth University…adds a big arm and solid bat to the 2014 LAG team.
Dan Clark – LHP/OF – Indiana Area HS – senior: The crafty south-paw finished 2-1 on the mound and hit .406 with the Indians in 2013…committed to IUP…will throw key innings on the mound and could see some playing time in the OF for LAG.
Patrick Boyer – RHP – Greensburg-Salem HS – senior: The 6’5’’ righty finished his 2013 season with a 5-3 record and 69 strikeouts in 52 IP for the Golden Lions…named a member of 2013 WPIAL AAA Section 2 All-Section team as a senior…currently uncommitted…adds a big versatile arm on the mound for LAG in 2014.
Tyler Tubbs – RHP – Hempfield HS – senior: Finished with a 3-1 record with 2 saves and a 1.35 ERA in 2013 for Hempfield high school…committed to UPJ…will contribute in a big way on the mound for LAG this summer.
