Fans were treated to a high-scoring affair Friday as Laurel Auto Group outscored Martella’s Pharmacy 9-8 in eight innings.
Hitters on both sides were strong at the plate as the teams combined for 23 hits, including three extra base hits.
The teams traded runs for most of the contest, leading to eight lead changes in the game.
Laurel Auto Group took the lead in the eighth inning and held on for the victory. Laurel Auto Group went up for good on an RBI single by Luke Smeltzoff Brad Coleman, scoring Ryan Wardropper.
Austin Sleek got the win in relief for Laurel Auto Group. Sleek pitched 2 2/3 innings and allowed three runs.
Coleman was charged with the loss. He lasted just one inning, walked one, struck out none, and allowed one run.
The top of the first saw Martella’s Pharmacy take an early lead, 1-0. A solo home run by Ian Helsel started the inning off.
Martella’s Pharmacy got two-run rallies in the fourth inning and the seventh. In the fourth, Martella’s Pharmacy scored on a two-run single by Jack Shirk, scoring Dillion Boyer and Luke Williams.
After a quick strike from Martella’s Pharmacy, Laurel Auto Group responded with two runs in the seventh. Laurel Auto Group scored on a walk by Nico Pecora and a sacrifice fly by Alex DiRienzo.
