Not even a strong hitting and pitching performance from Luke Smeltz could carry Laurel Auto Group past Martella’s Pharmacy at Point Stadium on Wednesday as Laurel Auto Group suffered a 5-1 defeat.
Smeltz was hot from the plate for Laurel Auto Group. Smeltz went 1-3 and drove in one. He singled in the fourth inning.
Smeltz put together a nice outing. Smeltz held Martella’s Pharmacy hitless over one-third of an inning, allowed no earned runs, walked none and struck out one.
Stone Rice got the win for Martella’s Pharmacy. He allowed one run over seven innings. Rice struck out three, walked one and gave up four hits.
Alex DiRienzo couldn’t get it done on the bump for Laurel Auto Group, taking a loss. He lasted just 5 2/3 innings, walked one, struck out five, and allowed five runs.
The bottom of the third saw Martella’s Pharmacy take an early lead, 1-0. Martella’s Pharmacy got things going when Wukich singled. A passed ball then moved Wukich from first to second. Ian Helsel singled, plating Wukich.
Martella’s Pharmacy didn’t relinquish the lead after scoring one run in the fourth inning when it scored on an RBI single by Jack Shirk.
